We just unboxed an Envy 15 that my wife ordered and it appears to have been shipped with the wrong display.

We updated to catalyst 10.7, but we are not able to adjust the screen resolution to 1920x1080p. Instead it seems to be limited to 1366x768.

Is there a way to confirm the details of which display we have without opening up the laptop?

Right click on the desktop and go to Screen Resolution.
It should tell you the display name 'Display:xXxXxX'

Google it or post it here. If it doesnt show there you might be able to get the info in the Bios.

Thanks, Wave! The name of the display is "Mobile PC Display"

That was the first thing that we checked and we found in the screen resolution menu we were not able to increase the resolution beyond 1366x768. I was hoping perhaps it could be some sort of driver issue, but we've already updated the ATI drivers and I'm pretty certain it's the wrong screen.

In case you want to make sure, Lavasys Everest can tell you exactly what display you have.

...and make sure HP doesn't send you a used replacement either. Brand new, no ifs-ands-or-butts.

Hi, I recently bought a refurbished 1st gen envy, which was claimed to have 1080p screen but can support only up to 1366x768. This is just one of the problems I've encountered.
I bought this from Curry's in the UK.

Direct quote from the phone call to Tech support: me: " Sir, no, I paid for a 1080p screen and all I got was a 720p screen, I can't change my resolution to higher than 1366x768". Tech: " No, you don't understand, your computer and hardware is perfectly capable of displaying the resolutions. If you play an HD video or play a game, it will stretch automatically and show you the 1080 p resolution... "

Tried it a couple of times, all i get is a blank screen and have to reboot.

Such computer illiterate people in Tech support nowadays...

Just return the computer then. If a tech has a simple problem with that you could probably imagine all the fun you'll have later if something really does go wrong.
