I switched the rams between my mbp and x61. The mbp worked fine, but the x61 wouldn't boot. I then removed 2gb and left a single 2gb stick and it still wouldn't boot. You can hear it try, then you get a couple of beeps and a black screen. I can't figure out what's the problem, please help.

2GB modules should work in the X61.
I suspect that the RAM isn't seated properly. The blank screen is the usual result if this happens. Take the module out and put it back, pushing it harder into the slot as you clip it down. Also try both slots since some motherboards can be fussy. If one module isn't seated properly then the other won't work either.

PS: check when shopping that a 2GB package is 1 x 2GB and not 2 x 1GB. There should be no confusion with 4GB (=2 x 2GB) since single 4GB modules are currently rare. -
Thanks! It worked. P.s. A single 4gb stick is rare? I didn't know it was available.

X61 won't boot with 2gb (stick) ram.
