    X7800 on Leonvo 3000 N200 possible?

    I have a Lenovo 3000 N200 Laptop with a T5250 CPU. I like the machine, despite it only has an integrated X3100 GPU.
    Only the CPU feels a bit slow sometimes, when doing intesive image processing. and video en-/decoding.

    For this cause I would like to replace its CPU.
    Now to my Question:

    I could get a X7800 very cheap.
    Would this CPU work on this machine? I know that it should on the hardware-side, but what's about the bios? I don't know, if the bios does realize the CPU. It should definitely realize Meroms up to t7500. Would it run anyway, maybe as "unknown Intel CPU", as I have seen before? The Bios also has no Multiplier setting for the CPU. does this mean, it would run at its standard multi of 13?
    Can I set the multi of multi-free CPUs with software such as RMClock?

    Hoping for your helpful answers.

    No lenovo laptop supports overclocking, so if you were to install a X7800 it would run at stock speed of 2.8Ghz.
    If you wanted to overclock you would need to know the PLL (clock generator) on the motherboard, so that you could use third party software like clockgen, cpucool, and setFSB to overclock the processor.
    Without knowing the PLL model you are not going to get anywhere overclocking.

    The Lenovo 3000 is a business system, so I highly doubt the Bios will read an extreme processor.
    You really do not want an X7800 anyways. They have a higher TDP/power consumption than the normal socket P processors.
    I would stick with a T9300/T9500 for the best cpu performance upgrade.

    The TDP doesn't concern me. The X7800 or X7900 processors are completely identical to other Memron CPUs beside their higher clock speed and the open multiplier.
    At the same VCore and same chlock speed, it will have the same power consumption and heat production as e.g. the t7800. Intels TDP only gives a rough estimation of the max power consumption at full load und with standard VCore under worst conditions.
    Because I always undervolt and most times underclock my processors, the TDP doesn't really worry me.

    I cannot use one of the t9x00 CPUs, because of the thermal sensor in my machine. The Fan would always run at full speed.

    What I actually want to know is:

    1. Will this Processor work correctly, even it is not known in Bios? If its name is displayed correctly doesn't matter.

    2. If it works, can I use tools like RMclock to set its multiplier via Software? (I know that my Bios does not support this.) Remember, that on this CPU the multiplier is unlocked, so that I don't need e.g. SetFSB to overclock via bus speed.



    @boypogi: When trying to post, I got an 404 error message, so I didn't realize, that my posts were actually there. Later, when I realized this, I added a note to the other ones that they can be deleted an sent a message to an admin. No idea, why they are still there.

    I was reading an older thread today on overclockers forum about a workstation board I had.
    The board is an ASUS and it states it only works with 2000 series socket F opterons. A few guys tried the 8000series opterons, and well guess what.
    It booted up and cpu-z showed just plain old amd opteron.
    The spec number wasnt shown, but the correct clock speed was.

    So if the same holds true for you, the system should still power up with the X7800, you just may not get a full reading from cpu-z and so forth.

    To be safe I would get the X7800 from a reliable source, ie a place which has a return policy, or a friend. You want to do this because if the cpu doesnt work than you can always return it.

    Rmclock is 3rd party software, so you probably will not be able to change any values if the processor is not fully supported.
