Hi guys I recently spoke to a tech at Dell and she told me that the X9000 wasnt compatiable with the Dell Studio laptops but I wonder about the X7900 if that would be.
Just checking if anyone else on the forum has done this upgrade and can tell me if Dells BIOS works with this processor.

If it has the newer montevina based chipsets, it'll be compatible with the X9000 and X7900. It's not officially compatible because the X9000 and X7900 are based on the older Santa Rosa Penryn platform. Nonetheless, Montevina is backwards compatible with Santa Rosa based CPUs, but not the other way around.

Theoratically it would work if its a socket p. Iam pretty sure the bios would allow it. Where are you planning to purchase this processor, check your p.m. later.
