So I was just looking at this notebook:
Sager NP8170 (Built on Clevo P170HM) Custom Gaming Laptop
And I noticed that for $75 extra they will overclock your system.
Has anyone had experience with this?
Do they have some special way to overclock a mobile SB CPU?
Or are they just going to overclock the GPU?

Just a normal overclock I would imagine, what your actually paying for is the time saving of not having to do it yourself and the fact they will have to guarantee the overclock holds, so if it fails 6months down the line its their problem not yours.
From reading it, its the CPU and/or the GPU. -

Well here's the thing, I thought overclocking and SB didn't mix:

How are XOTIC PC going to do it? -
Another thing, notice 2920xm 895 where as with the G73sw it is 1,109 to upgrade from the same 2630........

Desktop Sandy Bridge allows for limited multiplier-based overclocking even if your CPU does not have an unlocked multiplier: you can more or less force the CPU up to the highest Turbo level. Maybe they've figured out a way to do the same thing on laptops?

Huh, I went to check this on the NP8150 and they also have this option. Is it just cpu also or gpu? Last I heard, you couldn't overclock the cpu.

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Software overclocking?

but it's on a system that doesn't come with an OS...

You can still increase the base clock that all clocks on the SB platform are, well, based on. This is what they are probably doing. You can still increase the base clock a couple Mhz and still keep everything stable.
Actually now that I think about it I doubt they are overclocking the CPU at all. They are probably just overclocking the GPU. Their description of their "Redline Boost" says they overclock the CPU and/or GPU.
Either way it is complete BS. Burning 75 $1 bills would bring you a better return on your money than that crap. -
Edit: I just saw your edit. lol
"XOTIC PC Redline Boost? Extreme Performance" + sandy bridge, will they overclock your CPU and how?
