Since the XP os was introduced MS have disabled the PCMCIA slots unless it detects some connected hardware, however i have a notebook cooler that simply taps into the power pins and nothing else. As such XP doesnt detect any hardware and doesnt power the pcmcia slot.

Does anyone know of a reg tweak to power them up?

(note: in win98 the slots are powered, so i am certain this is an XP control issue!)

Doesn't the cooler come with any drivers? And Windoes doesn't identify new hardware when you plug it in? I would think the latter would be the case, even if it only needs power. I mean, how can that company sell a product that requires a hack to work with XP? It would be worth contacting them too.

it was produced during the win98 era ( i think), but has been phased out as the manufacturer didnt want to locate a fix for it.

Since win98 powers the PCMCIA slots regardless of what is plugged in. I dont know what winME or win2000 does with the pcmcia slots though.

I remember those, I have one somewhere, a Just Cooler NB-100 I think it was called. I have never been able to find drivers for it either. There was also an NB-101 model but that didnt help with the driver search. I would love it if someone figures out a fix for it, such a shame, a really neat device.
