I see that the 1080 screen is not available anymore on Dell's website. Is this going to be a feature available in the future? I really would like the 1080 but I also would like a matte finish. Has anyone replaced the 720 screen with an after market matte screen that is 1080? If so do you have a link?

    Thanks!

i've never seen a matte 15" LED 1080p screen for sale. but its almost definitely possible.

youll just have to find some pictures of the 1080p screen connector and match it up with other models. someone in the dell forums can probably help you.

Chances are the screen just went out of stock and Dell isn't showing it on their config page as a result. Go hunt around in our Dell XPS forum and see if people have any definitive information (especially the owner's lounge thread).

I can't help but commenting that Dell did the same thing with the rgbled screen for the Studio XPS 16 and HP likewise for the Envy 14 "radiance" display. There has been a worldwide shortage of LCD displays for over a year now, but the super high quality ones seem to quickly disappear from consumer models and become available only on the super-expensive "professional" models, which is the case with both Dell and HP. Could be just a coincidence, but getting harder to believe.

High resolution screens have disappeared from most consumer models, only the high end models like XPS, Envy will give you an option for the screen. And that is exactly why you buy a business notebook.
