There's a pretty smoking deal going on until Friday on the XPS M1330 through EPP. I was going to wait for Montevina (and hopefully OEM Blu-Ray) but at this price Im tempted to pull the trigger now. I do have two questions though.

    1. Even if Dell does come out with a Blu-Ray drive for the M1330, is there a good chance it will work with existing models? I remember a post saying there was a Blu-Ray provision in a BIOS update a while ago, does this mean a retrofit *should* work if/when the time comes?

    2. Would these specs

    T8300
    4GB RAM
    Nvidia 8400

be good enough for smooth Blu-Ray playback? I noticed that with the M1530 Dell requires the 8600M in conjunction with the T8300.

I don't know if a new Blue-Ray player wud fit,but IMHO this should be able to play the movie on your screen.

If Dell comes out with a BR version of the m1330, assuming that only the slot-load drive has changed (and no motherboards or connectors have changed), you should be able to remove your old M1330 drive and buy and install a new M1330 BR drive.

Don't know about the BR playback though. I imagine it should still be good enough.

The 8400Gs should be plenty capable of handling blu-ray movies and such.
However if you plan to use the xps1330 for gaming, I would reconsider, since the 8400GS is not a very powerful graphics card.

The XPS1530 is a good alternative, since it has a much more powerful graphics card, and I think it already has a blu-ray drive as an option.

I installed a BD player from an HP into my Gateway FX, another important thing you'll need is software like CyberLink or Nero8 with the plug-in for HD playback, without one of these = no HD playback.
