I just got an XPS with a 5200 rpm HD(250GB). Is it worth it to upgrade to a 7200RPM like:
1- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145160
or
2- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148307
Also i have 4GB of RAM, should i get aftermarket memory??
are this changes worth it?? thanks =)

call me a noob but i believe 4gb is the most you can have with the slots available on the 1530, unless you wanna upgrade the ram to something faster... faster hdd is good for gaming but i'm not sure about the warranty implications for replacing a hdd.
-
The Hitachi 7K200 is the better choice.
Check these reviews for confirmation:

And yes in my opinion it's worth to upgrade the harddrive. -
even if the HD is 1.5Bg/s???? instead of 3.0 as the western digital??? when i ment ram was like a faster timing ram
-
I thought your second link was to a Seagate 7200.2. The link is broken by the way.
Can you give me the link to the WD?
1.5Gb/sec or 3GB/sec does not matter because no drive will exceed that bandwith. -
-
Right that's what I thought. The Hitachi 7K200 is faster than Seagate 7200.2.
If you'd like to go bigger: There are two harddrives faster than the 7K200; the 320GB 7K320 and WD 3200BEKT.
About the memory: i don't think it will be worth it. -
so is this better than the 7K200 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136280
????? -
The WD3200BEKT is a bit faster, uses less power but makes a bit more noise than the 7K200 200GB.
Here's all the info: http://www.storagereview.com/php/be...&numDrives=1&devID_0=365&devID_1=355&devCnt=2 -
is it worth the bit more noise for a higher space drive with a higer speed?
-
It will be very hard to notice the difference in performance. The difference in noise is also not that big.
I don't know how well the 1530 absorbs noise of the harddrive and I don't know how picky you are.
If 200GB is enough for you I recommend going for the 7K200.
Edit: Oh but wait the 7K200 is way overpriced at Newegg. It should be around $110. Here you go:
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=10005818&prodlist=froogle
$89 after rebate. now that's a great deal. -
ya 200gb is good enough for me. So the 7K200 from zipzoom is the way for me to go??
-
Yeah man it's a very good drive and at $89 it's a steal. I've never seen it that low.
-
thanks man just bought with next day shipment. played an extra 17 dolllars for that. Will i see the speed increase?
-
You'll probably notice faster booting and loading of games and better responsivesness during multitasking.
On these pages (if you browse around) you can see how different games and applications perform on the 7K200 and a 250GB 5400rpm drive:
