    Hi,

I've recently purchased a XPS1530, and have done a reformat of the hdd before I installed XP Pro x64 over. The problem is, it seems like there are lots of conflicts lately. I've done a reinstallation twice, and right now, for the third time. Somehow, the registry always gets corrupted, the master boot sector corrupted (even after lots of chkdsk runs), the other drive that I've partitioned (d:\) has problems with chkdsk (seems like there are errors of some sort).

I wish to continue using XP x64, but judging by all the problems I'm having so far (numerous reinstalls), I think I should just stick with Vista to save all the trouble (and sudden corruptions of files).

Anyone facing the same problems as me?
Actually, I suspect that I might have a bad HDD. (Owned this laptop for just 2+ weeks)

Btw, I couldn't get the 2nd headphone jack to work too, I'm not too sure whether it's because of the drivers.

    Welcome to the forums.

I can't comment on the windows install as I've never used XP x64. But for the second headphone jack to work you need the Sigmatel drivers.

my friend wanted to do the same thing... he bought a lenovo thinkpad that came with vista, and he wanted xp, so he removed vista and installed xp 64 and it wouldn't even boot up without a bsod, he had the option of sending it in to an independant comp technician, but he didn't wanna spend the money so he just reinstalled vista. but it is possible to fix, i have no idea how, but im sure some genius technicians are available here gluck

XP X64 driver support is a failure.

Ok thanks... I do have the drivers installed, but it was meant for XP x64, so probably there was a problem with the drivers..
