I have a Dell XP laptop. I have a bunch of VHS tapes. I want to archive the VHS tapes so I can get rid of them. I want to make them into a standard video format at the best quality they can be onto a hard drive for possible editing, DVD making and just general archiving.

I would like some suggestions on hardware and software to do this with.

People at Frys pointed me to the Pinnacle Studio Movie Box Plus. But I would like to know what people think.

And what would be the video format to use for the best quality (I know its only VHS but I dont want to further degrade the signal.)

    Thanks

PS, total side question as I have been out of the "new laptop stuff" info for a bit. Whats Santa Rosa. When I last looked at laptops, the new processors were the Core 2 Duos. So whats Santa Rosa?
