Well I have decided on getting a dell e1705. Im having trouble deciding on the screen. What is the different between the 17 inch Wide Screen XGA+ Display and the 17 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen UXGA Display with TrueLife™. I will be doing some gaming on my notebook, the difference in price between the XGA+ and the UXGA is 150$, do you think its worth the upgrade to a UXGA. I heard the XGA+ is beter for gaming but its cheaper? Any advice  thanks

    "Widescreen
    d. WXGA or WXGA+ - 1280x768/800 or 1440x900; Wider viewing version of XGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
    e. WSXGA+ - 1680x1050; Wider viewing version of SXGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets.
    f. WUXGA - 1920x1200; Wider viewing version of UXGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets."

With the WUXGA you get more screen real estate. Some people prefer the screen with less resolution, some people like more. Most of the time (when it works properly) I have heard that people are very pleased with their WUXGA truelife screen. If your eyes strain looking at most computers then WXGA+ is probably better for you, otherwise I would recommend the WUXGA. Besides, if you are getting the 7800, or the 7900, the native resolution won't be a problem. If their is a problem with that, you can always play it at a resolution that is less. Get the upgrade.

Not surprisingly, it all comes down to resolution...

    WXGA+ is 1440x900
    WSXGA is 1680x1050
    WUXGA is 1920x1200

Generally speaking, the UXGA panel will be better quality, but the big question is what GPU you're going to be using... it'll take a lot of grunt to run current 3D games at the WUXGA panel's native resolution.

No. For gaming you want UXGA you will get a far superior quality out of UXGA than xga. Many people prefer XGA because its best for text etc. easy on the eyes but for gaming and media and quality all around the higher you go the better. IF uxga is to small/hard on the eyes sxga is a great compromise. Get the 7800 or 7900GS GPU's btw

So everyone says it worth the 150$ to change the screen from a Xga+ to a Uxga. Will I notice the difference when playing new games or not really?

This last one link is to my forgotten thread; I've stumped the users. But, I went w/ WUXGA in my e1705 and I can say it's great. My brother has WUXGA w/ his HP DTR and both look just splendid. Quick question: does glossy come w/ both, the WUXGA and WXGA+, or only w/ the more expensive WUXGA?

No, the WXGA+ screen on the E1705 is a matte finish with 1440x900 resolution. The WUXGA is 1920x1200 and has a glossy finish.

As for the camparison. The WUXGA is great for colors and they are bright. The down-side in my mind is taxing the video card that much more for that resolution. Also the glossy does tend to glare alot, from my experience anyways. Has some problems with light leakage (Dell).

WXGA+ - Great screen, does have light leakage problems. The colors are nice and bright, but no where near the WUXGA. Games play great, I play all games on native resolution.

What is boils down to is personal preference. With the 7800 or 7900 you might now have as many problems on the WUXGA resolution as I did with my 6800.

So really you will have to take a look at the screens and make a decision. :p

    Hope this helped!

I would go with the higher resolution UXGA, the image will be much clearer and generally nicer. The lower resolution makes things bigger and easier to see, but I don't really like it that way.

This is the best comparisson of the two screens thus far! Thanks a bunch, USAFdude02. BTW, I got the WUXGA w/ my e1705, also w/ 7800.
