I had a question about the Xoticpc config option that let's you pay for RedLine boosting the system. It says no redline boost or pay some greens to redline boost my system.
Is that OCing the CPU? The RAM? GPU? I thought you could only OC the XM series because they had unclocked multipliers and if you did OC the others, you would void the warranty. Besides, Intel's turbo boost is, for most purposes, very similar to OCing right? It is basically just OC with an upper limit?

I think they overclock your card pretty much using generic OC software, but the difference is that they guarantee the smooth performance of the machine without any artifacts / damage. Basically , they take out our liability in case of an OC failure/ damage.
I don't think it's anything more than that.
I personally wouldn't OC my laptop , Or if I do , it would be minimal. -
Overclocking on a laptop can be very effective, provided you have sufficient cooling. Manufacturers usually include the option to overclock, but don't condone doing so. It's great that these guys not only do it themselves, but guarantee it from any overclocking related damage/failure. I'd say if the price is right, go for it.

They OC the GPU. Not worth it imo, just do it yourself.

They offer this because the OC will fall in their warranty. If you OC on your own and break the CPU or GPU , the warranty won't cover

They won't know if you OC'd your hardware unless you fry it by over volting.
Save your cash and do it yourself. -
Is there a reason to OC a 7970? It can pretty much play all of today's games at max.

because 1 year from now you'll need to overclock to keep high settings.only reason why I would do it is so its convered under warrenty or if you got cash and lazy. I would only do it if it was like 50 bucks more but if its more then 100 it is not worth it. It's all about if you got the money and you are too lazy really. Also you might wnat to ask if its software overclocked or BIOS. If it is a BIOS overclock and its not more then 100 bucks i would do it to have the BIOS already tinkered with....save me time.

Seriously, at $75 it might be worth it. I don't see much need to overclock for today's games, but in the future it would be nice not to have to worry about damaging your system by OCing. If you aren't getting an extended warranty, I'm not sure it's worth it though. How much are you really going to need to OC the 7970 in the next year? If it fails, it would likely be out of the standard warranty anyways...IMO -

i would go for an extended warranty over overclock
