I want to upgrade to 4 GB of RAM....

My laptop is supposedly not capable of this..... wtf?

    HP DV9548ca

I went to the Corsair website and did the memory thingy and it said it's only capable of 2 GB... I'm running windows vista ultimate so that's not a problem, but is it a problem with my motherboard?

GOD help me I want 4 gigs sooo badly!!!

The documentation in these memory manufacturer sites are kind of wierd...
My Inspirion e1505 was supposed to be capable of taking only 2 x 1GB modules (according to Crucial, Patriot, Corsair, etc), but in fact it is capable of taking 2 x 2GB modules...

The main thing to check for is the chipset that is there in your notebook and check the specs of the chipset and decide...
My chipset is Intel PM945 and it can take 2 x 2GB modules...

What chipset do you have? Both the Intel 945PM and 965PM chipsets support 2GB RAM modules. (I've tried 2 x 2GB with both these chipsets).

If the specs for the notebook were prepared in 2006 then many notebook manufacturers only mention 1GB modules because 2GB modules weren't available at that time to test and they have never updated the published specs.

Which one does a dv2670 have? I haven't been able to find the chipset details anywhere.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking, because I'm VERY sure mine would be capable.

    Intel PM965 chipset....after me checking...

    Wtf?

Meh I'll probably go to london drugs, buy 2 x 2 GB DDR2 RAM and put 'em in and try it out, and THEN RETURN them. Now if it works, great, it should report that I have 4 GB, now if it does not work, what could happen?

    It'll only report 3 GB?
    It'll not start up?
    It'll report 2 GB?
It'll give me a blue screen of death?
    It'll turn into a pumpkin?

I also have the hp dv9548ca, I upgraded mine to 4GB yesterday and everything worked great. Vista 64bit recognized it immediately and all has been stable thus far. If you use Everest Ultimate Edition and check the dv9548ca motherboard capability it will verify 4GB is the maximum. When I contacted hp regarding the inconsistency in their spec's page for maximum ram, a supervisor assured me that the computer could handle 4GB and that hp had a bios stability issue during when the computer was released thus downgraded the maximum ram until further notice. However this has been fixed with the latest bios the " f23.A".

Also, all these companies like consair, just scan your computer for the model type and output HP information, however Everest actually has its own algorithm for verifying your hardware capabilities.

    Hope that helped
