The Panasonic Toughbook CF-AX2 comes with a matte 11.6" 1366x768 touch screen TN? panel

The idea is to change the panel for a Full HD one. I haven't checked panels yet, but I'm aware the Vaio Duo has a Full HD IPS. I'm not sure if the Duo's screen is glossy itself or uses a (removable?) glass coat.
I'd actually prefer a matte screen and don't mind if I'd lose touch functionality.

Could a panel like that be implanted in the Panasonic machine?

If the touch function is separate from the display itself on both laptops then there might be a chance you could work something out.
If it follows the tradition of modern capacitive touchscreen devices of the two being clued together... i don't think there's a chance in hell.
Not to mention that they appear to have different wirings for the display (with one being slate and the other hinge-based), and it sounds like a lot of trouble.
I suppose the first step would be contacting both Sony and Panasonic service centers and inquiring as to whether or not the screen for each can be purchased as a repair part without such other elements as digitizer/frame/cables etc.

But you know... I'm pretty sure that using a full-hd screen with a digitizer designed for HD is a guaranteed no-no.

And then there's the somewhat major issue of TN and IPS panels being non-interchangeable.

No, i don't think you can use that screen as an upgrade base.

I'm quite overwhelmed by all that information sangemaru, thank you!

Does the fact that there are two plugs, possibly mean that touch and display function is seperated on the toughbook?:

Do you know what type of connections / wirings we are talking about here?

Whats the task of a digitizer and where is located? From what I read before replacing a HD panel with a Full HDone is limited by whether or not the connection uses single or dual channel LVDS!? Does the pictures give a hint which connection type is used?

Why not? prone managed to change his TN panel for an IPS in his Vaio S13
Anyway the Vaio Duo's panel was just an example. Any FHD panel would do it (even a HD+), touch or non-touch, even if - but hopefully not - just a TN.
