Have been reading articles about the characteristics and release dates of various upcoming CPUs and chipset platforms, but I tend to get them confused. I know what Yonah is (dual core, 32bit, on market now), and Merom, Conroe are coming, but I forget which will be multicore 32 bit, multicore 64 bit, etc. And which will use which chipset. It would be cool to see a reference matrix with the CPU names listed down the left side and the characteristics (#cores, chipset name, #bits, est'd/actual release date, etc.) across the top. Has anyone put together such a "cheat sheet"? I've seen Pulp's "Easy Guide to Processors" and Lowlymarine's "Notebook Guide," but their sections on CPUs are out of date.

Conroe is for desktops and will be dual core / probably 64 bit as well.

Turion x2 will be dual core and 64 bit for sure and should be out in May.

l think that Yonah is actually 64 bit but for some reason disabled. Can someone clear that up for me?

Turion X2 will be very good I think.

Yonah is 32 bit, Dual core, 667 FSB
Merom is 64 bit, Dual core, 800 FSB, SATA II support, more expansions etc. I am not sure about Merom's fsb, will someone explain that?

Actually, I recall some comments a little while ago saying that Yonah is actually capable of running 64bit, but that feature is not enabled. I don't remember seeing any confirmation of that though, but hopefully someone else has some more conclusive information.

Reguarding Merom's FSB: It's supposed to be either 677MHz or 800MHz - I'm not sure which one, however.

when I asked chaz, he said 667. I also thought it was 800. Maybe cursoe is the 800fsb chip.

Merom will be like the Dothan. It'll first come out with the same FSB as Yonah so it's drop in compatible with the current Napa platform, like how Dothan could go into Carmel platform. Then Intel will come out with the new Santa Rosa platform and bump up the FSB on the Merom, same as how Sonoma platform came out and the Dothan got it's FSB upped to 533MHz.

I expect that Conroe will have a 800MHz FSB - all of the other current mainstream Intel CPUs have that bus, so its not too big of a shocker. Reguarding what lazybum said: I believe that what you say is very probable - Intel will tweak and perfect an existing CPU before upgrading/changing designs. Hopefully this will lead to higher FSB speeds or even an on-die controller, which would be great if Intel would do that.

I was hoping that Merom will be a full update on every front:

    -800 FSB
    -Faster Hz
    -SATA II
    -More expensions like SSE
    -5 hours battery
    -DDR 800 Mhz

If FSB is gonna be 667 I will be very disappointed :( I hoped 800 FSB so you can have 800 MHz DDR in it
