Has anyone else experienced this with their Z96J or S96J ?? I just put the Core 2 Duo T7200 and RAM in tonight, and fired it up to install XP .... only to hear the loudest vibrations I have ever heard from any computer ever. Right now I have a piece of paper wedged in the DVD drive door to help, but this is unbearable.

Any suggestions?? Sounds like the drive itself might be going back... :(

Yes, it's by far the loudest DVD-RW drive I have ever known. The vibrations make my palm tingle in fact. I don't think there's anything wrong with it though.

It's usually like that, most are loud and vibrate alot, though I haven't seen the z96j ones, if its that bad, ask and see if you can get a replacement and if thats any better.

The weird thing is ... after further examining it ... it's extremely quiet when accessing CDs under Windows. The horrid screaming and buzzing was only when it was accessing the Windows XP setup files from the DOS environment. Very weird.

I just received my new 96j and when reading from the windows cd for install I had the same thing. Quite humorous as it is VERY intense and can be heard from across the block. I found sticking paper only worked for a short time as it vibrated loose, so I held it with my finger. Since installing OS it hasn't done it.

    Very weird indeed

Yea man isn't that crazy ... now that Windows is full up, it's quiet as a mouse!
