Ok, so I got my G50 laptop recently, and realized that it has 2 harddrive bays:
1 of them claims to be able to handle drives of 15mm thickness
1 of them claims to be able to handle drives of 9.5mm thickness
I realized that in the 9.5mm bay, it is possible to fit a 12.5mm harddrive and still have the bottom cover fit snugly.
The only problem is that the SATA connections don't line up.
So I'm wondering if there's SATA extension cables where the connectors do not take up any space?
Because the harddrive is taking up the bay's area already, so the only way to connect the connectors would be an extension cable which connects the two and take up zero space.
Update: Here's what I want to do
(Note how there's no gap for any protrusion from the extension cable)

i am sure its possible. Grab yourself a 90 degree molex to SATA power adaptor, and a male sata end. You need this and a standard desktop sata cable. Its going to be a pain to get it all to fit, but its possible.
You will need something like this:

You will have to cut the end open, so that you get to all of the individual wires. Than you will need a male sata adaptor which fits into the notebook slot.
In total I believe SATA is 15 wires for power, and transfer has seven.
So you need 22 thin wires, a good soldering iron, and a very steady hand.
This may take a few hours to do.
I dont know why you couldnt just use two 9.5mm drives

Heh, the purpose for this is to allow my G50 to RAID in both 9.5mm and 12.5mm drives.
It's not fun if it's too easy
EDIT:
Btw, I was looking more for cables like these, but for 22-pin SATA, and only 1 male 1 female:
EDIT2:
Or rather, two of these: 1 for 7-pin, 1 for 15 pin

Custombuild a flatcable, those kind of flatcables that are usualy attached from the motherboard to the LCD on a notebook or from a cellular phone to the LCD. Those are like 0.5mm thick at most
But i guess you could always use and old PATA-cable as you show, to just use 7 + 15 cables for each purpose. The connectors are the really hard part, they can't be standard connectors, cause those takes to much space i guess? -

Hi.
When my WD 500GB external died, i found this right angle cable had been used, so you should be to buy them.
