from a site i saw there is a mobile ati 4650.
the person says that it is compatible with hp and other brands.
he also tells that a 4650 card will be compatible with many laptops that contain a 8 series card.(nvidia)
what is your opinion?
I dont know why but laptops are rarelly upgradable. isn'there people that can share there experience and give information if they upgraded?
i think it is possible to upgrade gpu if it isn't intagred, so please help this community ...

If it has the same mxm slot, then yes. It also needs bios support. It depends for each laptop.
-
thanks a lot for the reply. isn' t there anyone who did a upgrade on gpu? if yes please post your experience. i want the gpu upgrade dream to get real i will research but there should be peoplr for support and information
-
otherwise if its not mxm you need to change the whole motherboard

-
lets what and see,
if the bios is not proper upgrade cant we flash it
i think it is not that hard to upgrade a gpu. -
What specific make and model is the laptop you're considering to upgrade?
Does it have a MXM slot? If so, what's the MXM version? Is it a proprietary slot? Does the BIOS support the card you're considering? Does your laptop's cooling support the TDP of the card you're considering? Does your laptop's power brick supply enough watts to power the newer GPU + system + charge the battery?
Lot's of questions need to be answered before you spend the $$$. However, the general idea is that most laptop GPU's aren't upgradable, see the sticky. -
I don't think any of the HPs can upgrade their GPUs...
-
For example the 8400GS is soldered to the motherboard.
Yes, there re some graphics cards that are user interchageable - but only few laptops contain those - and it tends to be cards like a 8800(GT?).
Next - I somehow dubt ATI and NVidia will use the same connector - bu maybe they do.
BIOS - if there is a model in the lineup with an ATI card and one with an NVidia the BIOS will possiby support both.
Else: You'd have to research the BIOS you have.
Lastly:
People may be able to tell if your graphics card is soldered to the motherboard or not if you tell us your exact laptop.
(Manufacturer + complete name) -
i would probably go for vidock then.a better choice isn' it?
-
i am going to open the laptop and tell if it has a change-able gpu
i am going to take some photos. -
There are NO consumer HP notebooks that can have their GPUs upgrade. Furthermore, if Dell is amongst the brands that he claims compatibility with he is also smoking dope. Any Dell with a modular GPU uses a Dell proprietary connection that is compatible with no other types of laptops.
I'm going to call bust on this one. -
What he meant when he said that he was upgrading his Dv6's 4530 card to 4650 card is that he was going to get a new motherboard with the 4650 card as hp offers the Dv6 with 4650 card... in a way it is upgradeable GPU if u change the whole motherboard.
-
that is crap.I wont change my motherboard anyway.better save money and buy a laptop with a good gpu on future...
-
a possible gpu upgrade
