I have an Acer Aspire 5570. Ive read in a few place that this laptop can hold 4gb of ram. Today I went out and got a Corsair Gaming memory thing. heres a link http://www.corsairmemory.com/configurator/corsair_custom.aspx?id=351778

My computer is running on 2 512mb chips. i tried to replace one of them with this new 2gb chip, when I turn on my computer nothing happened, so i took out the other 512mb and left just the 2gb and still the same thing happen.

    whats wrong?

Can you run CPU-Z and upload a screenshot of the Motherboard Page ?

Tried both slots with the 2GB Module ?

    1. The gaming memory surprisingly has 5-5-5-18-2T compared to the regular 5-5-5-15-2T, which is a lower latency.

    2. Make sure they are inserted properly.

    3. Make sure the battery is in.

    4. If all else fails, maybe they are damaged. You can try using your other modules and download PC Wizard and give the info of the RAM.

    5. Also, could you give a direct link or the exact specs of the RAM you bought?

Most i945-chipset won't take 4GB unfortunately, but some can do 4GB anyways.. 2GB is usualy the max.

i have 4GB coming my way soon and i hope i won't have the same problem as you do (also have the 945chipset).. then i'm screwed hehe.

well if that is the case than why wont the computer load when i only place the 2gbs of ram in there? also why does the company of the ram show that my acer can hold 4, and many other sites ive seen have told me the same?

If the new memory doesn't work while it's in the laptop (make sure you inserted the RAM properly and that it's all the way in) and the old one does ... I would suggest you replace the new RAM with another set of 2 GB (the one with lower latency that 'Dude55' mentioned).
Since the RAM is covered, you should be able to get a replacement.

I am sure your notebook physically supports 4GB, and 2GB per slot.
Try getting generic Hynix memory, because Acers normally come with those, and they work fine.

    Or look for DDR2-667 PC2-5300 5-5-5-15 Memory.

Also with only the 2GB installed, remove all sources of power - battery; AC; USB devices etc, and hold down the power button for 20-25 secs. Then boot.

it may just not be compatible, that's all.
I have put in 2x2GB modules (Buffalo and OCZ) in my 5570-4315 with no problems.

If it says on their site that it should work then it's just incompatible memory if it doesn't work at all.

5-5-5-15 is faster than 5-5-5-18 as it's lower latency, but that performance is not anything you could notice in any way. As it's so small increase of performance for the latency.

But i suggest you get some 5-5-5-15 memory instead as they said.

There is no difference between the two, except the tRAS timing, which shouldn't affect compatibility. Probably the module you got is faulty.
Your notebook definitely supports 4GB physically.
Even Crucial says so, so buy a module from Crucial, at least they guarantee compatibility with your notebook.
