Hello I have been in the process of doing some upgrading to my acer aspire 5050 laptop. It has a single core amd turion 2 gig processor. I purchased a dual core processor from amazon and when I installed the processor I got power until a specific point in the boot up sequence at that time it powers itself off. I was able to boot up and hit f2 button boot into safe mode and can see the processor it detected the new cpu at the correct speed and type. a turion x2 2 gig dual core processor. and also i can boot up completely in safe mode and while in safe mode the operating system detects it as a dual core as well. So my opinion is that i simply got a faulty processor. Am I correct or is the bios possibly needing updating to run this newer processor.

Is this with a clean install of Windows?

And, which version of Windows - XP, Vista, Win7 x86/x64?

I think if you can go into safe mode and into the BIOS and 'see' the new processor properly there, then it may just be a matter of re-installing the O/S to properly identify the new hardware.

    Good luck.

It will be an OS conflict of some kind. Probably some king of program looking for the old CPU. I have had this in the past when upgrading desktop components. A claem install of windows will most likely cure the problem and speed you system up anyway.
