I have a travelmate 2303 wlci with the 340 celeron processor, 60gig hd, and 512mb ram.

I want to upgrade to a pentium 4 grade processor...what is the fastest one I can install in this notebook? also, what is the max ram I can put in?

I am installing a 250gig 7200rpm drive in it for speed and storage as well.

thanks in advance for the information.

Your harddrive is probably PATA, so you can't upgrade to SATA 250GB/7200rpm.

The fastest PATA drive you can get is Samsung HM160HC: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=264209

I would also recommend upgrading your memory. XP runs well with 1GB, Vista with 2GB.

I don't know what the maximum CPU is you could install, someone else will.

Your system uses the 855GM chipset, which means the maximum upgrade you can make is to a Pentium M 765 running at 2.1 GHz. You can upgrade, in theory, to any Pentium M processor running on a 400 MHz front side bus, so the ones with a 7x5 processor number should be your best bet.

Maximum RAM is 2GB in two 1GB sticks. Make sure that you get DDR RAM modules and not DDR2. The latter is incompatible with your notebook.

    well I picked up a 745 for 40 bucks....

1.8 centrino should be a good speed upgrade from the 1.5 celeron

Update, I have installed the processor and its working great, I have 2 gigs of ram being installed today, and also, I have a segate 7200 Rpm drive 80gig in it as well. its much faster than the original setup.

Once i get that nice 160gb drive it should really skip along!

Its working better than I thought it would. with the 2g of ram, and the new processor, the notebook really skips along with xp. My wife is tickled pink with it. I need to find a dvd burner for it now as well as that 160 gb single platter hd.

then it will be a perfect computer for her.
