Hey,I bought a travelstar 500 gig sata hard drive for my dell m170, the drive that is in it is a ata/ide drive, it has an an adapter,(or connector) so it can interface with the computer. The ata/ide drive is of the 44 pin type, the sata drive is of the non pin type,( not sure what it's called) so is there an adapter,(or connector) out there that will let me use the sata drive?

    probably not.

sata and pata are not just different pins, the electrical and logic characteristics are completely different. Any adapter would require the use of a bridge IC, a number of resistors and capacitors, and possible an additional power connector. Typically there is not enough room to use an adapter board to let you put a modern hard drive into an obsolete laptop.
