I currently own a dell xps m1210. I want to know if I can swap the current 12.1 WXGA lcd with a touch screen lcd preferrably from a HP TXxxxx model....I want to know if this is even possible?

How much are you willing to get down and dirty? Most likely, it would very difficult to do the swap, since the screen connectors and frame would probably be different.

you might need to do a lot of modifications and there are high chances it won't work so ur better off buying a new tablet... they're not that expensive and are way faster tham use ..

This and this can be usable if you can find 12.1 inch touchscreen kit. Goodluck!

If the XPS M1210 ever came with a touchscreen, then yes, it should be possible, if you use the same model screen as comes in the touchscreen version. Using a touch screen that doesn't match one of the originally configured versions can be very, very, touch and go, primarily due to BIOS issues. If there's no provision in the BIOS for the kind of communication you need from the touch screen device(s), then it simply won't work. Using the touch screen from an HP TXxxxx is very unlikely to work, IMO.

thanks for the replies..and 'crayones' I actually checked both JKK mobile and other site. I emailed JKK to see if he can help me out or at least give me some pointers. I'll post his reply when he sends it.

On ebay there's a 12.1" touch screen kit(usb kit)...sells for around $60USD. Only problem is I don't know if the kit screen is widescreen or standard.

I know there can be issues but If it touch screen mods can work on new low speced netbooks why not high speced notebooks?

If there is such a mod available to do on my xps... would I really need another screen? I think I should be able to use the same screen with a touch screen kit right? ..maybe if I just get the digitizer from HP's TX model? lol

with a touchscreen kit you can use the old LCD.
just ask the ebay sellers about the screen.

with HP's LCD, you need to research about socket connectors on both.
If compatible I think you can use it. (but there's no touchscreen edition on model XPS M1210, so I doubt it )

I have a 12 inch touchscreen screen. It's a toshiba portege m200, 1440x1050, beautiful screen and highest resolution for it's kind. I'm selling it so let me know if you want it to tinker around with it

For this kind of mod the solution is to retrofit the current lcd with a touchscreen overlay.

The idea in the OP is ok, but not easy to accomplish.
Possibly you will get the touchscreen to work, but the lcd not. The latter are tricky (interfaces can vary even between models from same manufacturer - no such thing like the good old D-Sub).

On a netbook I got touchscreen with a retrofit kit. The name JKK sounds familiar actually.
If the size is ok, it should be no problem. Mine had a USB interface as I remember (sold it, so unconfirmed).

Oh, you're talking about a touch screen overlay, as opposed to replacing the entire LCD panel. Hm. In that case, I really don't know enough to say. I guess the question at that point would probably be what sort of drivers you'd need to run it, and whether or not they're compatible with your system, as well as how easily you could fit the overlay into/on your LCD.

yea exactly judicator....there is a 12.1 touch panel kit on sale on ebay but Im waiting to hear from the seller if it is widescreen or standard screen size, and it comes with a set of drivers.
Even in HPs TX model it is a just widescreen lcd like mine with a touch panel digitizer on top. I am also tempted to try the HP panel on my xps only thing is it costs around $150-$200

Just get a tablet conversion kit. Clamp the adapter on the side/top of your screen, and jus write on your original screen. The adapter plugs into your usb and you can use it whenever you want.

    e.g. SISO tablet conversion kit
