Before i like to order the dv8000z for video editing and photo editing advanced.(is it still a good laptop?)

    i have some questions.

    1. Some people told me to buy the memory as 512MB DDR SDRAM (1x512MB) and than upgrade it later yourself. Is it cheaper and better to upgrade the 1x 512 or 2x
I don't know how this works

    2. And the advice about upgraden instead of order a high GB.
;80 GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive; I would like to upgrade this too. But the highest was 5400 no 7200 (?)
    How do you update this?

3.. And what are the cost for upgrading them.

4.. Somebody on this website told us that he did not got the bracket with the order.. What is that???

    thanks dutchgirl....
I am waiting for your advice

I would get the least amount of RAM that you can get and then buy it online and install it yourself. If you have 2 sticks of memory installed already and want to upgrade it yourself, then you have to remove one of the old sticks. So I would just get it with 1 stick of 256MB RAM and then order 1GB or 2-1GB sticks of RAM from an online distributer, I'm not sure of any in Europe though. For video editing a 7200 rpm hard drive will be the best option, you just take off the cover, and pop out the old hard drive and install the new one and it's in, and do a fresh install of your operating system or you can clone it and put your old hard drive in an external enclosure and use it for additional storage. A stick of 1GB of RAM will run you about $75 and a 100GB 7200 RPM hard drive will be about $230. You can save a lot of money, for 1GB of RAM Toshiba wanted $400, and I bought mine off of NewEgg.com for $85. Generally they want about $50-$100 more for a hard drive then you can get it for it you do it yourself.

so if i get the two sticks I can upgrade it to 2x1 gb instead of 1 stick 1 GB.

    Some thoughts:
The hard drives are laid into a cavity, before doing so, small brackets are attached to the HD, these brackets are then attached to the frame. If you don't purchase the 2nd HD with the lappy, then no brackets. This link/photo will help explain.

The previous poster gave good advice on memory.

Within a month the Core Duo flavor of the dv8000z will drop. Since Photoshop is already dual processor aware, you'll get better performance.

Holler if you have more questions.

Right, if you buy 2-1GB sticks of RAM, then you can remove the RAM that may occupy 1 or both slots and then stick in your 2 new sticks.

    Good Question.

My best guess, based on Dell's i9400, is that the price will be over $1800 for 2-6 months, until supply catches up with demand. Because of the Turion64 processor, the dv8000z is very attractively priced. Would suit your non-gaming needs very well.

There will for sure be more models available in 2 months with the dual-core processor, depending on what size screen you are wanting to get assuming 17" because of the 8000, you wouldn't be able to get it for under that, like 21st Hermit said, if you don't game, the dv8000z is a very nice machine. Especially when it comes to the specs you get for the money.
