I've got the storage space on my week old 1420 almost maxed out, and I'm looking for something that can back up all my libraries with plenty of space to spare. 250gb is a minimum, and I'd like to pay as close to $125 as possible for the most space possible. Firewire is a bonus but not a necessity. As far as the drive speed, my laptop is 5400, so I'd be fine with another drive the same speed, but 7200 would be nice.

Any suggestions? Looking to buy as soon as possible, so any current coupon or sale deals you know of would be appreciated.

So if I was looking to play media directly off the drive, USB2 would not be a good idea? Because I really like the looks of the one you just posted.

edit: I don't think NewEgg ships to Canada :(

Music is fine, video, i'm not so sure about. I tried playing 720p off my Western Digital MyBook (250GB, USB2) and it was rather choppy. My system might not be up to 720p though (P4 2.66GHz, 512MB, GPU doesn't offer hardware decode), so it might not be the drive's fault. I haven't tried that on my laptop though.

    Try finding the drive elsewhere.

    Check out NCIX or DirectCanada.

Do you want a 2.5" external or 3.5" external? The former will be alot more smaller in HD space and physical size, does not require an A/C adapter but will be expensive. The latter is larger in size, can be large in HD space, requires an A/C adapter and is fairly inexpensive.

The write-up on that drive is hilarious. How can an external drive "future-proof technology"?

I paid $80 for my 250GB Western Digital MyBook, so for $125, you should be able to get at least a 400 or 500 GB version.

You can play media off it quite easily over USB2, I store all of my video files (120GB worth) on it.

Of the posted deals, the 320GB and 500GB Seagate Free Agents at Best Buy look to be the best.
