    Hello everyone,

<---I know I might have posted this topic in a wrong place, or maybe the answer for my question is already somewhere else - I do apologize. If it is somewhere else, please let me know where I can find it  --->

My problem is: I have been thinking of upgrading the CPU in my alienware area-51 m9750 R1 series (as in the subject :p). Can someone please tell my what is the fastest CPU I can get for my machine?

    My current CPU is

    and my
    motherboard is

Processors with what type of socket should I be looking for? Which are compatible? I appreciate all your help ! Thx !

the fastest cpu you can get is the t7600, which runs at 2.33ghz.

your cpu and your mobo are not listed here, but i had the m9750. if you get a t7200, you can OC it to 2.25ghz and it should suffice for the t7600. the .33ghz difference really isn't much in terms of overall performance though.

Thx for reply. I see... so I guess, in order to have a faster machine, I would have to have a better mother board? IS there any chance to replace a motherboard in alienware laptops or is it as expensive as just buying a new one?

you're not going to be able to replace the motherboard in the system, unless you want a new m9750 motherboard.

however, there is a light in your tunnel, gaming wise at least. you can opt to purchase two ATI mobility HD 3870's which do in fact work with the m9750, allowing you to nearly double the performance of the sli 7950 gtx cards, while also getting a refresh on supported programming features so you could play the latest games.

though, the cards are rare, however, are probably more popular than they were before since newer generations are coming out. keep an eye out for ebay, and you can perhaps land a good deal on these cards. even just one 3870 will suffice for equivalent performance from a sli 7950gtx setup (which is the most powerful that the retail m9750 can support)

a member of NBR was able to get the 3870's to work, and it actually isn't too difficult. you just plug and play for the most part, and erase the nvidia drivers and install the ATI drivers. hope this works out for you - check out the hardware deals and NBR market threads on this site. you never know which NBR member might be trying to sell their 3870's.
