my alienware area-51 m15x comes with 1gb default. I am upgrading to 4gb's later.. this is the processor it will come with
Intel® Core 2 Duo T8300 2.4GHz (3MB Cache 800MHz FSB)
-it says 800mhz
from crucial i can get
Part #: CT776409 DDR2 PC2-6400 CL=6 Unbuffered NON-ECC DDR2-800 1.8V for $10 more than
Part #: CT776426 DDR2 PC2-5300 CL=5 Unbuffered NON-ECC DDR2-667 1.8V
Ignore the price. Will the ddr2 pc2-6400 be downclocked? or since it's 800mhz will it stay like it is?
So if my laptop had 667mhz, anything higher would be downclocked?

No laptop on the market can utilize 800mhz memory, as of now.
Your laptop will automatcally downclock the 800mhz memory to 667Mhz.
Their is a benefit of higher frequency memory. When the memory downclocks, its timings are lowered. Usually they are lowered to less than the standard timings of standard 667Mhz memory.
If their is only a $10 difference, I would still get the pc6400, cause the timings will be quicker than standard pc5300.
