hi, thanks to all, tried everything, seems that I have to replace the motherboard, but they are rare and expensive (found one at 260) so...is there a way to replace the burnt one by another, cheaper (and probably better) from another mark?
The other way would be to repalce the LCD cable, the video card, the cooler...and then (says the argentinian teck, check if processor works)
    Thank you from Argentina

Is it in warranty? Sometimes it would be better to RMA it to them and have them perform the work. At least they come with a 90 day warranty or the remainder of the warranty, whichever comes first

The processor should be easiest to check.

Heck, if its the right chipset, I'll test and ship you a 1.4ghz core 2 duo for 20$

You should be sure its the motherboard before you take any action like that. However, I am someone who has found a particular number of motherboards to be compatible in the past, even across brands such as HP and Dell. So if you are sure about it I can help you there.

Laptops motherboards, unlike desktops, are highly specialized and are difficult to swap without some serious skillz. Your best option for one at a cheaper price is probably used or refurbed via eBay, though shipping to Argentina might be expensive. I don't know about prices in Argentina, but you might be better off selling it for parts and getting another machine.

the motherboard seems ok, because it starts, just, the screen stays black. The tek says I have to change the lcd cable, the cooler (which was dead and thats why the laptop got overheated), the ATI radeon X1200 which is dead, he says...and perhaps the processor....so he says it might be cheaper to get a new motherboard alltogether...but as the emachine ones are expensive, and fragile I ve heard, I would not mind another one, at the condition that it can adapt easely. My texan friend is visiting in jan, so he could bring it to me, tahnks
