An S1G2 socket cannot accept an S1G4 processor. So no, a Phenom of any model would not work.

No problem. :) You can look in this list to see what you CAN upgrade to though... Anything with an S1G2 socket is compatible with your notebook.

yeah i'll have a look thru it soon. prolly too expensive though. i just realised i had an older phenom x 4 and hoped it would slot in.

well H.A.L. 9000, I HAVE TO ASK, it's 2010 AD. what's umm...going to happen ? surely something is afoot, as in 2001AD the towers came crashing down. ps. don't answer that if you don't want to. truth is i have been curious about it for a few years now and 2010 is almost done (pssst:it might be umbrella, not sure yet)

You mean a desktop CPU? Desktop CPUs are never compatible with mobile sockets, and it would have overheated even if it were technically compatible.

Well, Dave, it's all a bit preliminary at this point, but it doesn't look good.

There are mobile Phenom Quads. Phenom II P930 being one of them.

I know, but he said he had an older one. There aren't any "older" mobile Phenoms, since they're all a few months old at most. In fact, I don't think any of the mobile Phenom II's have a 955 model number.

phenom 2 is differnt from phenom / am3 as opposed to am2+ i think. it's not easy trying to remember all these numbers you know. and all i know about notebooks is, they have a mainboard, sort of.

    well it's older than a 965
