I know the MK is the single core...but what is the difference between the TK and TL X2 line of processors?

    TK is branded as follows

    AMD Athlon 64 X2 TK-53 (1.7ghz)

it appears that AMD just wanted another mid ranged chip to make the Turion TL look better.

note how the TK are alot cheaper?

The main difference is speed but more important the TL-60 has 1MB of cache 2x512 versus 512 for the TK-53 2x256.

The wattage is pretty much the same give or take 3-4 watts.

It's possible architecture is different could not find on AMD site. If you look at Turion # system TL-50=1.6Ghz 2X256L2 TL-52=1.6Ghz 2X512L2 TL-56=1.8 2X512L2 so you could suspect TL-54=1.8Ghz 2X256L2? But they don't make? So I suspect more than just L2

All AMD K8 processors are similar architecturally. So, the Turion, Sempron, Opteron & the Athlon are going to be pretty similar. The only difference between the TK53 and the Turions is the 2X256K L2 cache. The Athlon64 X2 brand will probably replace the Turions with 2X256k cache.

My guess is that AMD probably is reacting to the 'Pentium dual core' release by Intel with their own low cost cpu. These dont differ from the Turion X2 a whole lot but would probably be positioned as the entry level AMD dual core.
