Actually I'm not sure if its just the USB power that makes it short. Sony claims like 6hrs for non-premium units and 7hrs for premium based on japanese versions.

I think Sony is just plain off on its battery readings. I think normal, non heavy use is around 2.4-3hrs and as low as an hour for high graphics use. using a normal battery

I disagree. With the SZ you are able to shut off the 7400 and just use the integrated card to save battery. If that is the case, you should get AT LEAST 3 hours if not more. I'm not sure if it's the USB problem causing the shortage, but you have a right to be a little upset.

I would email sony and see if they have a fix. That's the best I can think of for now. At this point I think the USB fix is still "not a priority" for MS.

ttupa- you're right. No arguments there. I'm just stating what I was getting with the battery. Sony said in stamina with everything turned off and screen at 0 you can get 4 hours. BUT I personally dont call that being productive.

    Good point.

Usually I figure if you can get 2 hours, that should be good enough for productivity. I get just under 3 and, while I thought it was pretty modest at first, I guess I can't complain now. The computer works great.

I was just going by what I heard about the SZ. Kind of like a perfect match for me if it was available when I needed one.

You've got a great machine, I hope it lives up to billing. If not...that's why there's forum.notebookreview.com :)

I hope you mean you only get 3 hours with everything on max performance and maximum brightness for your screen.

When they state a lifetime for the battery they mean maximum battery time with your screen dimmed and settings tuned down for battery saving.

    Remember that.

    Cheers,
    Mike

Shampoo- You lost me. Are you saying he should get 3hrs with everything on? Or with everything on max savings?

I think he's saying 3 hours seems really low, considering what Sony originally said.

If that is the case, I on average get around 2:20mins use on full brightness and on "speed" setting but not playing any games.
The only way to watch dvd and get around 2:40mins is to have it set to "stamina" turn off 1394 and not to use the laptop for anything else. Keep in mind, just turning on the unit will drop your battery from 100 to 94%. OR around there.
