I don't have the slightest clue where to begin on trying to put in this 2 gig chip i just received from newegg. Does anyone have a quick write up on how to install this little bugger? My laptop is a dell vostro 1000, with xp, if it matters.

    Thanks :)

Dell has a guide/manual on their website (listed under Drivers and Support).

Just flip your notebook over, remove the memory cover, press both tabs to the right, pop old memory out, slide new memory in, press down, and Prest-o!

Make sure you have the notebook unplugged (remove battery also) and discharge yourself by touching some metal before starting.

ya know, i hear area 51 has one. you could always show up and ask if you can use their room to install ram into your laptop. according to the movie independence day, they even have aliens you can check out while you're there

laptop is now reporting 2.37gb ram, about 1.86 higher than i've ever had :)
