I see that Dell now offers solid state drives (SSD) and am thinking of getting one. Have any of you bought one yet? Could someone run HD Tune? I'm curious to see real world performance on these puppies. http://www.hdtune.com/

    Thanks
    Nick

The capacity is too small and two expensive, not practical yet.

Yep, I'll switch when I can get 128GB for under $500. Otherwise, it's a waste of time and money.

Samsung's SSD is slow compared Mtron's products. Here's Mtron's English website for those who want to know more. LINK There are already few reviews (most in Korean, sorry) out there, even though this hardware is still really expensive.

Since I'm in Korea right now, maybe I should give them a call and ask if they let me play... er, review some of their products. If it's as good as they claim, maybe my review will boost their sales? (Read: I just want a really fast SSD on my laptop as a reward for my efforts!)

May be what would be a good trade off, at this stage, is to have both types of drives in a laptop ... SSD for OS and critical applications and a regular HD for data.

If not, I would go with the SSD, even though they are low in capacity, and keep the bulk of my data on an external drive. But, as I am not planning to get a new laptop for at least a year to come, I hope by then we will have SSDs at prices and capacities that make common HDs redundnat.
