I'm looking to buy a BT reciever unit that I can plug my bose computer speakers into via 3.5mm mini jack. I'll be transmitting stereo to it via my BT phone and sony vaio.

I've looked around a bit and haven't been really impressed with anything specific yet. Thought I'd ask for experience on here before I go and make the same mistakes.

    Forget it.
BT compresses the audio => poor quality
your mobile phone receives it and sends it via its poor audio outputs to the Bose speakers => even poorer quality.

In the end, you spent a lot of money for the probably too expensive Bose speakers and then give them only noise. Don't do it, don't even try it.
BT audio was designed for speech, not for music.

If you want a good sound then use a good sound card and wires, if you want a wirless solution then search for complete wirless solutions, which are designed for music/audio and not only for low quality speech.

Or, if you only want to hear music, then you could also buy a something like the Roku Soundbrige or Logitech Squeezebox.

    Interesting.

So bluetooth headphones are fairly popular these days... what's the difference? Are the headphone wearers compromising sound quality for cool factor?

Probably, or they don't know what music is, or they only use it for teamspeak and games and so they notice almost no difference.

    So the theory. http://www.amazon.com/Linksys-WMB54G-Wireless-G-Music-Bridge/dp/B000E5E6KG

I have seen what your looking for, its just a bluetooth receiver that has RCA out so you can plug it into your home theater system.

What your asking for specifically would be not only a receiver but an amp. Unless the speakers have there own power (wich they do, after re reading), then you may as well just use something like your phone directly it probably has a headphone out adapter.

You could even be creative and use something like the Plantronics 260, its a bluetooth earphones set, just unplug the earbuds and then plug in your bose speakers, the cool thing with that is you would have some earphones too :p

You do suffer a sacrifice in quality for absence of wires with bluetooth headphones. But you can walk around the office and annoy people with your flashing blue light!
