you get a bigger hard drive....

EDIT: I maxed out my 1 TB drive and only have 3/4 of my library installed. I need to get a 4TB drive and just set myself up for the next 3 -4 years :)

Run Disk Cleanup and select all the options, see if that clears up space. Also, disable the page file if you have 8GB RAM+. If you're not on a laptop (unlikely as these are laptop boards, but not unseen before), or don't ever use the feature, disable hibernate.

Combined I would bet these steps would gain you at least 15GB.

You learn to be more efficient with your storage.

I always had 250-500 GB HDs, and complained about that fact. Then I switched to a 1TB+250GB of HD space, and the issue got much worse: I simply didn't care whether I installed a game or not, whether I left a video or a large installer here and there and everything got unwieldy, with icons all over the place, endless program list in Windows, and large chunks of stuff in a mix of different folders.

When you have a smaller space, you are forced to uninstall unneeded and unwanted apps and games, run WinDirStat ( WinDirStat - Windows Directory Statistics) every now and then to get rid of bloated games you no longer play and generally keep it in a working condition. I much prefer it that way.

For complete storage, such as a mobile USB HD, though - the bigger, the better. But I like to keep things smaller for everyday usage.

Go through your files, im sure you'll find some stuff you do not need.
Also, get an external HDD if possible, and back-up old files.

You were just told to be more efficient with your space. Once you've played a game, remove it. If you've installed something and haven't touched it in weeks, remove it.

You can keep videos and music on the external drive. If you're on the go, only copy over the files you think you'll need, and move them right back when you're done. With a little bit of effort, your existing drive should be more than enough to last.

Most games are 1-5 GB in size, only very few games are more than 10 GB in size and very rarely you'll have a game that is larger than 20 GB, and it is usually due to installed mods or major updates, like World of Warcraft, for example.

You can easily keep something like 40-50 games in a 500 GB HD, and still have enough room for everything else. And even then, speaking from experience as a true game hoarder myself, those games are just sitting there 99.9% of the time , you'll very rarely play any of them and most likely center on 3 or 5, at most.

So just get rid of the stuff you know you really won't play any time in the near future, don't keep games as large as WoW indefinitely if you're not playing them, and I'm sure you'll be all set.

If you're a bit of a hoarder like me, it's really a hard practice to get rid of stuff you won't play, though. The good thing is that if you're a hoarder, having a smaller HD forces you to stay tidier. It's just like in Fallout 3/NV or Skyrim, when you're overburdened and have to get rid of stuff, so you're looking through your inventory: throw away that rifle/magic sword (that you never actually use)? Nah, it could come in handy sometimes later. And how about that armor with that special trait (that you never actually remember to wear when needed)? No way, it's important! And how about....?

By the way, I've noticed in your sig that you have a MacBook with a 750 GB Seagate Momentus XT installed. Are you satisfied with this HD? Is it fast enough? Reliable? Quiet?

Because I'm planning on going with this Seagate soon enough and I'm looking for some feedback regarding it.

lol 30 newish games and 50 old games more like. You can have 100's of old games but any decent game in last 7 years and you will be lucky to get 30 games in 465gb of space on a 500gb hdd and have spare 100gb for videos files music etc.

I am amazed by peoples steam collections.

I reckon these days laptops need 750gb minimum if you are a hardcore gamer.

Meh, I've been dealing with a 256GB SSD and it's perfectly fine. I realized as others stated, that you just have to be more efficient at cleaning up. Even as a hardcore gamer do you really need 50 games on your laptop at any given time? I have most of my entire 300+ game Steam collection on my home server, plus option to download the game again if needed from Steam. Not to mention most of my CD/DVD game collection ripped and stored on my server. I only carry 4-6 games on my machine at any given time and usually only play 2-3 of those.

On a desktop, I would say add more storage. On a laptop, I've found myself uninstalling whatever I'm not actively playing, and just keeping the saves.
