    Hey, so I'm about to order this barebone, a P8300 proc, 2 x 2GB 800MHz DDR2 RAM, and a 7k320 HDD.

I want to know how you think this laptop will perform for gaming, video editing, 3D design, and Flash.

I'm also wondering if you have suggestions for changing the parts listed above (if not, the barebone itself). I've heard for example, that P8300 performance is practically P8400, that the 7k320 has a high failure rate (though it's fast), and that XP 64bit may still have problems if I try to upgrade the RAM...

    Please enlighten me!

7K320 high failure rate, I have never heard that before. I cant recall anyone on this forum with a dead 7K320. I own three of them, they are great drives. My main system and server are running 7K320's. Two of the three have over 2500hrs of use on them and going strong. The other doesnt get used much in my other laptop.

Your performance will be okay. Video editing needs raw cpu power, so I suggest a P8600 or a T9600

For the memory 4Gb of any reputable brand is fine as long as it has a lifetime warranty, ex: crucial, corsair, g.skill, OCZ, Patriot, etc

I have never used XP 64bit before. XP 32bit is fine if you can deal with about 3.2Gb of memory max.

Doesn't the T9600 have only a 800MHz FSB? Wouldn't that be a bit slower than any P800, or is it outweighed by clock speed?

EDIT: nevermind it has the same... I wonder what diff it from the P800s besides power consumption...

still, those procs would cost as much as the barebone itself! haha

    T9600 is a 2.8Ghz processor with a 1066MHz FSB
The only differences are power consumption, and in some case the T series has more cache

Check the nbr marketplace, ebay and hardforum for good processor deals

With a 512 MB Geforce, and fine processor and decent RAM memory I can say that this laptop is very good in terms of heavy performance.. Nice find, I just hope the shipping cost will not be too high, good luck on that.
