My 1 yr old inspiron 1420 is showing 52% battery wear level according to everest and 53% according to notebook batteryinfo. My backup time has significantly reduced from 2hr45min to 1hr30min within one year. should i be alarmed or is this normal ???

also i would love to recalibrate my battery. can anyone lead me to a good guide for it

    thanx in advance

When you power the system up, go into the Bios. In their you should find a tab dedicated to the battery. My E1505 has an option where I can check the battery information and readings from the Bios. Yours most likely does to, so you may want to see if any problem is reading their.

If you have noticed that big of a battery life drop, it may be time to get a replacement battery. I think they come stock with a Dell 1 year replacement policy. If the battery is over a year old, you can still use the battery, and than buy a new battery, or you can operate on your old one.

Usually whe the battery run time drops alot, an internal wire in the battery may be the cause of the problem.
Dismantling the battery can help you find out if this is the case.

hi, i have one years old battery too. somehow it was showing 22% wear.

but one day i forgot to turn off the notebook, so it discharged completely (can't even power up pressing power button). but when i pluged the ac, the battery wear changed to 8%.. I think maybe a full discharge ( re-calibrate) will help you
