i know about sizes, 1gb, 2gb sticks and whatnot, but what about cache and the speeds of it? im gona get a 2gb stick soon, but i dont know which is the best one for it, i want absolute pristine performance with my laptop, is there anything faster than 677?
-
mmmm, it depends what kind of laptop you have. Some laptops do not support higher than 677 even though you put in a faster stick.
-
well most laptops don't support 800Mhz. Only maybe some sagers or alienware that are built around desktop chipsets.
I don't know if there are sticks of 667Mhz with CL4 but you can try searching for them.
Sorry that I couldn't be any more helpful. -
there are DDR, DDR2 and DDR3 ...so DDR3 is the fastest if your laptop can support
-
What laptop supports ddr3?

Unless you're getting the Clevo D900C or the Asus C90 (I think that uses a desktop chipset) then the fastest is DDR2-667. It doesn't really matter though, the Core 2 Duo is not constrained by memory bandwidth as much as previous processors like the Pentium 4.

i have no idea, but then again you guys are right, i probably don't want to spend money on something my laptop can't even handle
i'll be getting an inspiron 1520 if that helps -
Even with 800MHz FSB processors, Intel 965 chipset does NOT support 800MHz DDR2 DIMMs, they will underclock them to 667MHz.
-
you mean 667 MHz?
sure there are memory modules faster than 667 MHz, for instance there are those that are rated at 800 MHz, but the sad part is that your motherboard will not be able to run them at their full frequency, they'll be underclocked to 667 MHz. This is true atleast for the current generation of chipsets.., let's wait for Intel to bring in their enhanced Santa Rosa's
I don't think there are any 667 MHz with CL4 out there? It is either 667 MHz with CL5 or 533 MHz with CL4 making the overall performance almost the same.....
but then, are there any chipsets that support DDR3 memory at this point of time? I am not even sure if any company manufactures DDR3 System Memory. Video (Graphics) Memory, yes, but System Memory, No No No..... -

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Latency is not a big deal. Performance differences are usually negligible and often the price even does it even more injustice.
-
Yeah, it does seem overpriced to get memory a few miloseconds faster, but some people seem to like it, hence my pointing it out.
-
I just bought 1 GB DDR2 @ 667 MHz ....although 800 is available as SODIMM (for laptops) but i wasnt sure if it ll work so i bought 667.
Dude...buy 667 only unless the shop agrees to exchange it later.
best RAM out there?
