Checkout LambdaTek. I remember seeing the 250GB 7200.3 under £50.

Jisaac what laptop are you going to be? Are you still going to buy an EeePC or did I manage to convince you to go for something else?

See also Micro Direct. PATA / IDE or SATA depending on whatever notebook you get.

Well my mum was a bit p***** when she found out i broke my laptop lol... so i'm gonna be buying this outa my pocket money: hence why my budget is so tight. I'm not sure yet.... either i get a netbook (preferably an eee) or i get some crappy system off ebay, and upgrade the components myself. If i take the 2nd option, i'll probs get sum celeron m laptop and upgrade to a c2d or something... dunno really - still exploring my options. :)

btw ne1 no off any good looking celeron m laptops going cheap on ebay?

Checkout Acer Aspire 5315/4315/5720 (Santa Rosa). You can get them for 15 Quid at carphonewarehouse with a broadband connection, but they should be available for about £200 on ebay.

    That's good.

I'm looking myself for a Dell Precision M70 myself to fix the damaged screen in the one I have. So if I found something I'll PM you.

Second hand Gateway laptops with a Celeron are usually cheap in ebay despite their good built quality!

I think you're better off with an eee.
even cutdown/outdated c2ds like the one I have are about 100 quid, mobile chips are pretty expensive.
some ram, a cpu and a hdd would easily cost you 200 quid. things are just expensive in the UK :(

I agree and desagree with you. I agree that things are bloody expensive in the UK, but desagree whenyou say that Jisaac should get an eee.

The laptop below is like mine:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GATEWAY-W340UI-LAPTOP-CELERON-WIDESCREEN-WIRELESS_W0QQitemZ120308225003QQihZ002QQcategoryZ177QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
The original CPU is a celeron M420. I upgraded mine to a T2500, but it will support all socket M CPUs with 533mhz and 667mhz FSB (133 and 166 effective):

    Celeron M 410, M 420, M 430, M 440, M 450
    Celeron M 520 - 1.60 GHz, 1 Mb, 533 MHz, M
    Celeron M 530 - 1.73 GHz, 1 Mb, 533 MHz, M

    Pentium Dual Core T2050 - 1.60 GHz, 2 Mb, 533 MHz, M
    Pentium Dual Core T2060 - 1.60 GHz, 1 Mb, 533 MHz, M
    Pentium Dual Core T2080 - 1.73 GHz, 1 Mb, 533 MHz, M
    Pentium Dual Core T2130 - 1.87 GHz, 1 Mb, 533 MHz, M

    Core Duo T2300 - 1.66 GHz, 2 Mb, 667 MHz, M
    Core Duo T2400 - 1.83 GHz, 2 Mb, 667 MHz, M
    Core Duo T2500 - 2.00 GHz, 2 Mb, 667 MHz, M
    Core Duo T2600 - 2.16 GHz, 2 Mb, 667 MHz, M
    Core Duo T2700 - 2.33 GHz, 2 Mb, 667 MHz, M

    Core 2 Duo T5200 - 1.60 GHz, 2 Mb, 533 MHz, M
    Core 2 Duo T5500 - 1.66 GHz, 2 Mb, 667 MHz, M
    Core 2 Duo T5600 - 1.83 GHz, 2 Mb, 667 MHz, M

    Core 2 Duo T7200 - 2.00 GHz, 4 Mb, 677 MHz, M
    Core 2 Duo T7400 - 2.16 GHz, 4 Mb, 677 MHz, M
    Core 2 Duo T7600 - 2.33 GHz, 4 Mb, 677 MHz, M

This laptop is listed as having a 15.4" screen. This is a mistake as it has a 14.1" wxga screen.

The hardrive is an IDE HDD. The seller is asking for £150 but accepts offers. I'm not sure what CPU you've in the Asus S6F. I found a review saying that their is two types of CPU in the S6F the L2400 and the T2300. If your's has the T2300 you can swap it with the Celeron M420 in the Gateway. The Asus S6F HDD is SATA so it won't fit the Gateway

Mine has the L2300... which is soldered - so no swaps i'm afraid. The S6F HD is ide... so it will fit - the S6F M is SATA on the other hand.
    cheers for your response :)

    no problem
The gateway with the W340U chassi are very good and solid. The only thing I'm not happy with is you have to dismental the laptop completely to gain access to the CPU... but then I don't do CPU upgrade every day :)
