Why would you want to remove the thermal tape? It's there for a reason.
Anyways if you would want to remove it, just peel it off, it wont harm the copper heat sink but your notebook might overheat. -
lol to apply artic silver 5. i bought a barebones system and i am assembling it now. i dont want to use that tape crap. i have a whole tube of arctic silver 5 here i want to use instead. im going to pull the sink off the gpu and appli it to that as well..
and it will not peel off it just smears kinda.. maybe some rubbing alc. or nail polish remover?? -
Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Rubbing alcohol's supposed to work pretty well, but I've always ended up just scratching it off.
-
A combination of both really. Use your fingernail to scrape off the majority, then use a cloth dipped in rubbing alcohol to remove residual, finger oils.

thanks ill try that tomm morning

credit cards are pretty good for that sort of scraping.

Only thing I've found better than whats sugested above is getting some of the Arctic Sivler thermal compound remover.
It comes as 2 parts the 1st sort of disolves and soffens teh thermal pad so you put it on and leave it for 10 min or so come back and the pad is just mush so you wipe it off. Then I thnk teh other part is just rubbing alcohol and is for priming ther surface so new stuff can be put on.
best way to get rid of the oem thermal tape on the heatsink.
