I am planning ot upgrade from 256mb to 1.256mb ram. But those are cost at leastaround 100$. I just wonder if it will cost less in the future as newer laptop uses DDR2 and less ppl will need DDR type. But checking PC133 ram are even more expensive than any other type ram. Still 100$+ is too expensive and hate to have 768mb ram if I gotta upgrade later will have to throw 256mb ram away.

There are ternds in the selling price of ram but I forget when they are. Tomshardware.com forums I bet could tell you more.

DDR is considered old and will likely go up in price. Local stores may have leftovers and be willing to part with it for cheap.

Supply and demand. DDR1 is no longer being produced.

pc100 and pc133 ram are now starting to get a lot rarer and prices have been up for a couple of years now. Whilst desktop DDR ram is still cheap, the laptop stuff is not quite so but still not too expensive.

As all new machines are now usng DDR2, this is pretty much the cheapest going. The new large sodimms are still wildly expensive (2Gb) but the smaller dimms often get sold on after upgrades and as such are dirt cheap.

DDR is now becoming less common in both the new and second hand markets and I doubt it will go down in price. As DDR2 is now so popular I think DDR prices will start to rise again with rarity before too long. The only real applications for DDR these days are P4 and Athlon XP based machines which are certainly getting older and rarer and some of the early Turion and Semrpon 64 mchines, but again they're rare too.
