i posted this once ...... but got no reply.....![]()
i have an inspiron 1420 as in my sig. with windows vista home basic 32 bit.
i usually keep my bluetooth off by going to control panel>>bluetooth devices>>device>>turn off bluetooth adapter.
however when i today tried to turn bluetooth on and clicked the bluetooth devices in control panel it didnt come up. it just showed semi busy mouse pointer for sometime and then no indication.
another thing i have noticed is that the shortcut for this icon in startmenu is not shown in standard bluetooth icon, but as a plain file icon (see the attached pic). i cant use my bluetooth also
i tried the following but were of no use
1. uninstalled and reinstalled the bluetooth driver
2. turned off bluetooth and then again turned it on in bios.
the following stuff may be noted
1. when installing drivers, the setup flashed new firmware into the bluetooth
which i havent seen before
2. after the first reinstall an icon with red bluetooth icon came in the taskbar. i rightclicked it and was able to turn on the bluetooth device(the BT light on panel came on) , but still i am unable to use it, it wont detect my motorala kept nearby (i am sure the phone is perfectly ok as it can be paired with my bros' nokia)
3. the setup says installation was successful but device manager showed 2 unknown 'bluetooth periferal devices' (however it showed 3 other recognised bluetooth devices (i have only one)
4. after all these stuff still i cant open the bluetooth devices in control panel nor use my BT

It looks like its missing some BT software or the BT module isnt getting detected thus showing nothing in the BT devices
Check you havent disabled anything by accident in startup or services
Have you tried doing a system restore? -
ok i just put it in normal startup and still its screwed up.
i dont use system restore. i have turned it off . so restore points to go ??
do u think it might be hardware ?? -
thanx for ur help ..... the problem is solved. infact there was a service called "bluetooth support service", which was disabled somehow and was not inside msconfig services tab. so i think it didnt come up in normal startup mode. i had to check inside services.msc to find it. the issue is solved after i enabled that...
thanx again flipfire and +rep for u
bluetooth issue pls help
