Hello guys, i'm thinking of buying a new HDD on 7200RPM but i got confused about if i should get it with 8mb Cache or 16mb Cache, and if there is any performance difference between those 2.

You need to compare the HDD's not just cache, which ones are you looking at.

Get the Hitachi or the 16MB Seagate. I'd say Hitachi :).

Get the Hitachi 7K200 series harddrives, they are much better than seagetes 7200 rpm drive. The crown for laptop harddrive speed is between the Hitachi 7K200 and Samsung's 320Gb 5400rpm drive.
Both are about the same speed, the only difference is the Hitachi has a faster seek time.

16mb vs 8mb cache performance isn't a noticable differential. For an average user, More storage > more cache. Nothing is slower than running out of space.

Edit, if performance is an issue. Raid 0 > all.

What connection are you hooking up your external drive with? If you're using USB or firewire, then a bigger cache won't really help much. If using eSATA, then it may.
