Yesterday my Compaq/HP C714NR fell off a desk, flipped over on the way down, and landed back-bezel first on top of a mouse that had been sitting on top of it. The screen is toast - I can see the mouse moving in a small portion of the screen, bu mostly it looks like a psychedelic broken mirror. I can run an external monitor, so I think the laptop is OK.
There are a few different replacement screens out there, from an eBay item at $99 with free shipping up to some more "official" looking sellers charging more than I paid for the laptop a year ago ($400). I can't really see any way to tell if the eBay cheapie is different from what others are selling. Are there any danger signs to look for when buying a replacement laptop screen?
I guess I can't post a link to the eBay item here (this is my first post), but if you search for c714NR you'll see what I'm talking about.
thanks for any advice/guidance...

I would go for something like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-COMPAQ-PRESARIO-C714NR-15-4-WXGA-LCD-SCREEN-A_W0QQitemZ400003207747QQcmdZViewItem
Its $115 or so, but if you do the MS Live purchase you can get 30% off
Just make sure that the screen you buy is compatible with your laptop

Is there any reason to choose that screen over the cheaper ($99 free shipping) one at eBay item number 260318682098 (sorry I'm too new to post a link)?
Thanks a lot for the quick reply...
