    I have just ordered a Sony VAIO FW290NEB with 2 x 1 GB DD2 SDRAM.

The main board is Mobile Intel GM45 Express 1066Mhz.
    The other specs are at:

I was planning to upgrade it with this DDR3 memory from Newegg:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148191

But the Curicial site says this laptop is compatible with DDR2

    http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=VAIO VGN-FW290NEB

Although intel`s page says this motherboard can support DDR3. I am confused. Do you think I can upgrade to DDR3 ?

Also it seems DDR3 is 1.5V while DDR2 is 1.8V. If it is not compatible, would it burn the motherboard ?

    Thanks,
    Mert

Although Intel specs say that the GM45 chipset does support DDR3, that specific model does not according to Sony specs.

Either way, there would be little to no advantage to upgrade to DDR3.
