Can I use an ssd drive in a dell inspiron 6400? I've maxed out on memory but I want to make it faster. so I was wondering if I can use an ssd drive with this computer and if so what brand and model should I get?

If you're looking to make an older system faster by buying a pricey SSD, you might consider just buying a new laptop.

SSD's are still too expensive anyway, I personally wouldn't buy one until the price comes down a lot more.

No problem. You can buy SATA or PATA SSD drives. I believe Dell 6400 has a SATA drive so Samsung SATAII SSD would be a good choice. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147053

But better you wait for Intel's new SSD to come in stock. It's faster and cheaper.

alternatively have a look at a Seagate 7200.3 250GB, you can get those for $87.

Dont waste your money on an SSD.
I bought a 7k320 for my dell e1505, which is the same as the inspiron 6400, and it runs much faster than the 160gb 5400rpm drive which came with it. Stay with the mechanical drives, since they will offer great harddrive performance at a very affordable price.
