    can eSATA be plugged into internal sata ports?

    I just bought a new external HD with an eSata port and i was just wondering can i use a cable that i got with my motherboard and plug it directly into the internal sata ports? i guessing not but i just want to know for sure if i can or not.

    No, but there are brackets and converters available. They are the same pin out, but the ends are slightly different to make sure users avoid using an internal cable for external stuff.

    Esata uses a different cable end, but there are quite a few backplates and adapters that will convert it.

    Are we talking about the internal SATA port on a desktop?

    I've got a cable which has a standard SATA connector on one end and eSATA on the other. It comes out through a hole in the back of my desktop.
