Basically i want a laptop workstation with just a 1920*1200 screen, keyboard, touchpad, wifi and two usb ports and nothing else, that can control my desktop through wifi,
technically that should be possible now, because i know you can stream hd video thriough wifi,
the remote device on the computer should be hooked up through DVI passtrough and usb and must encode the video signal to 1200p video (on the fly with no delay, for gaming), it must also transmit sound, take care of the mouse and keyboard and the usb ports on the workstation.
see my uber bad drawing!!!
If such a thing existed i would not need an extremely expensive and hot gaming notebook, or does it exist?
If not can someone invent it and produce it please![]()

just for your info, streaming hd video doesn't mean you can do it realtime without delay. movies are compressed, and this is done in advance.
the only thing that comes near is stuff like WiDi, and that has a 2sec delay to tv right now. compressing isn't free, and only with sandybridge gets "realtime". it still ads delay.
and to transfer uncompressed fullhd video, you have 1920x1200 pixels in your case, at 24bits per color, that's 3bytes, resulting in 6.5MBytes per screen. if you want 30fps, that's around 200MBytes/second, or 1.6GBits/s. takes a while till we get that with wifi. -
crap ... that is too bad

i wouldn't want to play on a laptop while having a desktop anyways, much better ergonomics on the desktop (bigger screen, screen on eyes height, big keyboard with good keys, a mouse, good sound setup..).
just get very long cables for screen, mouse, audio, and glue them and the devices together and take them with you. still has a cable, but is like a laptop. yeah sorry, it's friday -

Maybe if u lower the resolution requirement.
There is much work in this front as there is a strong advocacy for cloud computing which will require this 'real time' computing to be possible. Isnt there a cloud game service online similar to steam that streams game feeds to your computer and does all the computing at the server? I dont know what resolution they are going at, but didnt they make it work because gaming obviously is kinda real time requirement? -
There is, its called Onlive and it's really bad. I want to host my games at home on my desktop ...

Here is your solution, move the desktop near the couch get yourself a very nice extendable wall mount for your monitor, mount it above the couch. Get a wireless keyboard and mouse. Lay on the couch and enjoy your gaming and when your done you can move the monitor and use it as a normal couch.

look up the capabilities of 'thin clients'.
MSFTs new remote desktop enhancements might be interesting, but we won't be seeing them for a few days yet.
can someone invent this? or does it already exist?
