SEMPRON Si-42 is a single core CPU:

url has all the data about this cpu. Hope it helps. -

check the HP/Compaq site to see if a dual core configuration option was/is orderable.

I believe it can be upgraded to a dual core as the Compaq's on Hp's website have Dual core Turions available for configuration. Keep in mind, you will likely be voiding your warranty by doing a CPU upgrade.
Also, depending on what you will be using the laptop for, you might not have a need for a dual core processor. If doing basic tasks, the Sempron will be more than enough to handle your needs. -
Get yourself an SSD and save yourself the CPU installation trouble. Performance improvement will probably significantly outweigh a CPU upgrade anyway.
can this laptop be upgraded to dual core ?
