    I just bought a couple of Walmart specials HP Compaq Presario CQ60-419WM Notebook PC Could this laptop be upgraded to a dual core AMD processor ?

    check the HP/Compaq site to see if a dual core configuration option was/is orderable.

    I believe it can be upgraded to a dual core as the Compaq's on Hp's website have Dual core Turions available for configuration. Keep in mind, you will likely be voiding your warranty by doing a CPU upgrade.

    Also, depending on what you will be using the laptop for, you might not have a need for a dual core processor. If doing basic tasks, the Sempron will be more than enough to handle your needs.

    Get yourself an SSD and save yourself the CPU installation trouble. Performance improvement will probably significantly outweigh a CPU upgrade anyway.
